NRA BASIC PISTOL

  • Equipment:
    • Sunnyvale Rod & Gun Club will supply firearms, ammunition and safety equipment
  • Goal:
    • To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a handgun safely
  • Agenda:
    • Handgun knowledge; revolver, semi-auto, (single and double action)
    • Safe gun handling exercises
    • Ammunition knowledge
    • Shooting positions; bench-rest, bulls-eye, isosceles, weaver
    • Breath and trigger control
    • Firing the first shots
    • Range time, safety rules, live fire exercises
    • Transporting firearms
    • Cleaning
    • Shooting sports and activities
  • Note:
    • This class runs longer than the usual pistol class due to some subjects being covered in greater depth. Students also get to shoot some rounds of 9mm, 38-special, and 45ACP for familiarization.
  • Handgun Safety Certification:
    • HSC card is required in the state of CA to purchase a handgun
    • HSC test will be offered at the close of the class with HSC Card issued upon successful completion of test.
    • Cost for HSC is $25.00
  • Bring a sack lunch, snacks and water/soft drinks
  • A baseball-type cap and closed-toe, comfortable shoes are required

    • Shooting positions Field ready, trap ready
    • Firing the first shots
    • Range time, safety rules, live fire exercises (On trap field)
    • Trap etiquette
    • Patterning the shotgun, chokes
    • Transporting firearms
    • Cleaning
    • Shooting sports and activities
