Action Pistol

Object

Shoot steel and cardboard targets accurately and in the least amount of time.

Type of Events

We shoot numerous disciplines: USPSA, IPSC, IDPA, ICORE, and Steel Challenge.

When & Where

Every Wednesday at 12:00 PM (i.e. Noon sharp) on the Rifle Pistol Range. All participants are expected to arrive on time and help with range setup, brass pickup, taping targets, and range teardown.

Eligibility

It is open to Members and Guests of Members. Members may bring a guest one time to try it out.

Equipment

  • Ear and Eye Protection are required.
  • Equipment varies depending on the discipline we are shooting.
  • Typical courses are 16-24 rounds and participants shoot 3-4 times; average requirement is 100-150 rounds of ammunition.
  • Participants shoot from a holster and at least 5 magazines, 5 speed loaders or 5 moon clips are desired
  • Calibers we shoot are 9mm, 38 Special, 38 Super, 40S&W, 45ACP, and 22LR.

Safety

  • We run a cold range. All firearms are unloaded except when it is your turn to shoot and the range officer instructs you to load. When you have finished shooting you are instructed to unload and your targets are scored.
  • We welcome new shooters who have not tried action pistol. You should already have handgun shooting experience so we can focus on how to shoot an action pistol course of fire safely.
  • The first time you shoots with us, you can wear your gun in a holster but cannot draw from the holster. You must shoot from a low ready until we make sure you are safe.
  • We have a “safe table” which is the only place where guns can be cased and uncased and dry firing is allowed in a pre-determined safe direction. NO AMMUNITION is allowed on the safe table!”
